Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of
migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental
partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.
It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
The SSI program in Somalia is primarily a community-based, small grants initiative
implemented in close coordination with the donor, with communities in priority areas, and
with all levels of Government, particularly newly formed District Administrations and regional
state institutions. The overall objective of the program is to support the political transition of
Somalia towards a functioning and stabilized Federal State through activities that promote
good governance, consolidation of the federal structure, and a receptive environment to
respond to emerging political contingencies.
Under the technical supervision of the Reporting Officer in Nairobi, the Reporting Assistant
will work closely with the Reporting Officer in Nairobi, Reporting Advisor in Mogadishu,
program, and M&E units in Baidoa and Nairobi to collect inputs from the field teams,
research political and or security developments in target areas, report on program activities,
and to contribute to the preparation of weekly, quarterly, annual and other thematic reports.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
Specifically, the Reporting Assistant will be responsible and accountable for the following
core functions:
1. Support the Reporting team in preparing, collecting and collating information for the
weekly reports.
2. Research, monitor, and analyse any political and security developments in Southwest
State
3. Draft and edit political/security updates and program highlights for the weekly report
4. Attend program activities in Southwest State, collect relevant information including
photos and draft activity reports
5. Assist in drafting and editing quarterly, annual and any other program specific
documents
6. Liaise on a regular basis with team members based in Nairobi and Mogadishu
7. Participate in any program-related meetings and brief the team when necessary on
political/security developments in target areas
8. Update and maintain reporting files (activity reports, photos, videos, etc) in the webbased
database
9. Update and maintain the reporting tracker and calendar of activities
10. Undertake duty travel to Mogadishu, Kismayo or Nairobi as required
11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
1. University degree preferred from an accredited academic institution, preferably in
political science, international affairs, development, social sciences or other related field;
2. Experience in USAID Stabilization programs is an advantage;
3. Proficiency in computer skills, especially MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word

Experience
1. Minimum of five years of experience in the field of research, analysis, reporting,
governance, or development especially in international organizations or NGOs;
2. Proven experience in report writing, analytical writing in English;
3. Previous experience with UN and International Agencies, or NGOs an advantage;
4. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the political/security landscape in Somalia,
with a demonstrated capacity to understand and analyse the national, regional, and local
political and security context in Somalia;
5. Demonstrated ability to maintain integrity in performing responsibilities assigned;
6. Mature individual, able to work independently, under pressure, able to maintain
accuracy, paying attention to details, meeting deadlines and working with minimal
supervision.
7. Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills with proven ability to work effectively and
harmoniously with a team of colleagues.
8. Demonstrated ability to maintain integrity in performing responsibilities assigned.
Languages
Fluency in English and Somali is required.

and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where
applicable.
Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a
neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be
considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the
country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting
distance, and work permit, as applicable.
